Female Oppression Theme

We have read many vignettes so far. Based on most of vignettes Sandra Cisneros's she starts to develop the theme of female oppression. Write at least five sentences, using correct punctuation, that discusses how Sandra Cisneros develops female oppression through at least two of her vignettes. If you need to use a word processing software first to check your spelling, and grammar you can and then paste it into the blog.

I look forward to your responses.

"Darius and the Clouds"

In "Darius and the Clouds," Darius says one of the clouds is God, what do you think he meant by that statement.

Please write in proper English atleast three sentences to respond to the question. Below is the vignette. I will be grading you on the content of your response. You will not receive full credit if it is obvious that you did not spend time looking for your errors. You can always type your response in a word processing package and then paste your comments after it was spell checked.
"Darius and the Clouds" taken from The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

You can never have too much sky. You can fall asleep and wake up drunk on sky, and sky can keep you safe when you are sad. Here there is too much sadness and not enough sky. Butterflies too are few and so are flowers and most things that are beautiful. Still, we take what we can get and make the best of it.

Darius, who doesn't like school, who is sometimes stupid and mostly a fool, said something wise today, though most days he says nothing. Darius, who chases girls with firecrackers or a stick that touched a rat and thinks he's tough, today pointed up because the world was full of clouds, the kind like pillows.

You all see that cloud, that fat one there? Darius said, See that? Where? That one next to the one that looks like popucorn. That one there. See that. That's God, Darius said, God? somebody little asked. God, he said, and made it simple.

"Those Who Don't"

Well, we spent some time discussing Sandra Cisneros' vignette, "Those Who Don't". Even though it is one of the shortest in the book, I feel it has a lot of meaning. Write in a complete paragraph what this vignette means to you. What is the message you learned from this vignette? Make a connection to a time when you felt different.

From The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

"Those Who Don't"

Those who don't know any better come into our neighborhood scared. They think we're dangerous. They think we will attack them with shiny knives. They are stupid people who are lost and got here by mistake.

But we aren't afraid. We know the guy with the crooked eye is Davey the Baby's brother, and the tall one next to him in the straw brim, that's Rosa's Eddie V., and the big one that looks like a dumb grown man, he's Fat Boy, though he's not fat anymore nor a boy.

All brown all around, we are safe. But watch us drive into a neighborhood of another color and our knees go shakity-shake and our car windows get rolled up tight and our eyes look straight. Yea. That's how it goes and goes.

Make a connection

In class today we read the vignettes, "Louie, His Cousin, and his Other Cousin." Make a connection to your life when something you did was unexpected. Write a paragraph explaining a situation that didn't turn out the way you planned it. For example, Esperanza and her friends went on a ride in the cadillac, they didn't expect for him to get arrested or get in an accident.

Have fun, remember, everyone will be reading your post.
